How to Install Roombanker Alarm Systems: A 10-Minute Step-by-Step Guide

Table of Contents

Installing a Roombanker wireless alarm system takes about 10 minutes for a pro and 30 minutes if you’re doing it yourself. The process has four steps: (1) plug in the Hub and connect it to WiFi, Ethernet, and 4G, (2) stick sensors on doors and walls — no drilling needed, (3) scan each device’s QR code in the RB Link app to pair them, and (4) run a Walk Test to verify every sensor triggers correctly. That’s it. No wiring, no mess, no long-term contract.

Introduction

I’ve installed dozens of alarm systems, and the first thing people always ask me is: “How long is this going to take?” When I tell them 10 minutes for a pro, they don’t believe me — until they see it happen.

A Roombanker wireless kit goes from box to fully armed in the time it takes to drink a coffee. No electrician, no holes in the wall, no intimidating control panel. We even filmed ourselves doing it in under 10 minutes — the challenge video is linked below.

This guide walks you through every step exactly as I do it on a real install. By the end, you’ll know how to set up your own system — or understand exactly what your installer is doing.

What You’ll Need

The Kit:

Your Roombanker kit comes with everything in one box: a Home Security Hub (the brain), a set of door/window sensors, a pair of PIR motion detectors, a wireless keyfob, an alarm keypad (in the larger kit), plus a power adapter, an Ethernet cable, adhesive mounting strips, and a screw pack. Depending on which kit size you picked, you’ll have 6 to 12 devices total. The installation process is identical regardless — more sensors, same steps.

Additionally:

  • A smartphone (iPhone or Android — download RB Link from the App Store or Google Play)
  • An email address (for app account registration)
  • A SIM card (optional, for 4G cellular backup on the R2 PRO hub)
  • A screwdriver (only if you want to wall-mount a PIR with its bracket — otherwise, skip it)

What you won’t need: a drill, cable trunking, a hammer drill, a building permit, or an installation contract. The entire install generates zero construction waste.

Step 1: Plug in the Hub and Get It Online

⏱ ~3 minutes

📷 Hub rear panel — power port, Ethernet port, SIM card slot, labeled

Take the Hub out of the box — it’s the round device that looks like a small speaker. Plug in the power adapter and flip the power switch on the back. The center indicator light will start flashing green — that means it’s ready to pair. If it hasn’t started flashing within two minutes, press and hold the Cloud button on top of the Hub for 5 seconds.

Now open the RB Link app on your phone. Register an account with your email — it’s the only thing you need. Once you’re in, tap the “+” icon on the home screen and scan the QR code on the Hub or its packaging. The app will guide you through connecting:

  • WiFi: Select your network and enter the password.
  • Ethernet: Just plug a network cable into the back of the Hub — it connects automatically. Nothing else to do.
  • 4G (R2 PRO only): Insert a SIM card into the slot on the back of the Hub. It auto-detects APN settings.

Connect all three if you can. The system automatically prioritizes Ethernet > WiFi > 4G. If your internet cable gets cut, it switches to WiFi. If power goes out, it falls back to 4G. You don’t need to manage anything.

When the indicator light turns solid blue, the Hub is connected to the cloud. Rename it (like “Home Hub”), tap Done, and you’re ready for the sensors.

Step 2: Place the Sensors Where They Belong

⏱ ~5 minutes

📷 Door sensor close-up — peel backing → align on door frame → press 10 seconds

📷 PIR detector corner placement — showing coverage angle across a room

This is where wireless systems earn their name. No cables to run, no channels to cut.

Door/Window Sensors: Inside the box you’ll find small two-part sensors. The smaller piece goes on the door frame, the larger piece on the door itself. Peel off the adhesive backing, align both parts with no more than a 1cm gap between them, and press firmly for 10 seconds. That’s one sensor done. Repeat for your front door and any accessible windows.

PIR Motion Detectors: The simplest method — just place it standing on a shelf or cabinet corner, roughly 2 meters high (chest-to-shoulder level), with the lens facing the area you want to cover. If you want it wall-mounted, the included bracket needs two screws — screw the bracket to the wall, snap the PIR onto it. Done.

Before you commit to a position: In the RB Link app, open the device’s Installation Test:

  • Door sensor: open and close the door. The LED flashes red = correctly installed.
  • PIR: walk through the room. Red flash = motion detected.

Then run the Signal Strength Test. You’ll see a signal bar between the sensor and the Hub. Full bars is ideal. Two bars works fine. If you only see one bar, move the sensor a few inches closer to the Hub and test again. Only peel and stick once you’re happy with the reading.

Step 3: Pair Everything in the App

⏱ ~2 minutes

📷 RB Link app “+” menu → Scan QR code screen → Device added confirmation list

Now that your sensors are physically in place, they need to be registered with the Hub in the app.

Fast way — Batch Enrollment Mode (recommended): On the Hub’s home page in the app, tap “Add Peripheral.” The app plays a short video showing you how to trigger each device into pairing mode. Follow along — as each sensor enters pairing mode, it automatically joins the app. Keep going without pausing; all devices will appear one after another.

Alternative — QR Code Scanning (one at a time): Hub home page → “+”“Scan” → scan the QR code on the device or its packaging (look for the green RBF logo sticker). Follow the on-screen prompts, assign the device to a room, give it a name (“Front Door”), then tap Done. Repeat for each sensor.

One exception: Wall Switch connects to 220V mains power. For that device specifically, scan its QR code before wiring it into the wall. For everything else, either method works fine.

Once all devices are added, assign each one to a room — Living Room, Bedroom, Hallway, and so on. One Hub supports up to 64 rooms, and organizing your sensors by room makes arming and disarming much easier later.

Step 4: Run the Walk Test and Confirm Everything Works

⏱ ~5 minutes

📷 RB Link Walk Test screen — status changing from “Not Triggered” to “Triggered”

This is the step people skip. Don’t. It’s the difference between “I think my system works” and “I know it does.”

In the app, go to Hub Settings → Walk TestEnable.

Now trigger every single sensor, one at a time:

  • ✅ Open a door with a sensor on it → the device LED flashes red + the app shows “Triggered”
  • ✅ Walk through a PIR-covered area → red flash + “Triggered”
  • ✅ Press the panic button → red flash + “Triggered”

The Walk Test runs for 20 minutes then turns itself off — plenty of time. When every sensor passes, do one last check: unplug the Hub’s Ethernet cable. Watch the app — the WiFi icon should light up. Now turn off your WiFi router. The 4G icon should light up. All three network paths work independently. Your system is genuinely ready.

You’re done. The Hub glows steady blue. Every sensor shows online in the app. Tap “Arm Away,” walk out the door, and from this moment on — if someone opens that door, the siren screams, your phone buzzes, and the monitoring center gets the signal.

That’s It — You Just Installed a Wireless Alarm System

I wrote this guide because installing a security system shouldn’t be harder than buying one. If you followed along, your Roombanker system should be armed and protecting your home by now. I hope it took less time than you expected — and if you beat the 10-minute mark, you’re officially faster than our challenge video.

Got stuck on a step? Drop a comment below and I’ll talk you through it. If this guide saved you an installation fee, send it to someone who’s still on the fence about going wireless.

FAQ

Q: Do I really not need any tools?

For a standard kit install, the only “tool” is your phone. Sensors use pre-applied adhesive tape — peel and stick. If you want to wall-mount a PIR with its bracket, you’ll need a screwdriver for two screws (both included in the box). That’s the only scenario.

Q: What if the sensor signal is weak after I stick it on?

Before you peel the adhesive, open Signal Strength Test in the app and hold the sensor at your planned position. Trigger it — check the bars. If it shows one bar, nudge it closer to the Hub and test again. Only commit once the reading is good. If a sensor is already stuck and the signal is weak, gently pry it off within the first few minutes (the adhesive is strong but forgiving early on) and reposition.

Q: Can I take the system with me when I move?

Yes — this is one of the biggest reasons people choose wireless over wired. Pop all sensors off the walls, unplug the Hub, pack everything back in the original box, and reinstall at your new place exactly the same way. The only extra step: you’ll need to remove each device from the old Hub in the app and re-pair them at the new location.

Q: DIY or professional installer — which should I go with?

For a small apartment with a basic kit, DIY is totally fine — 30 minutes, no prior experience needed. But if you’re installing in a villa, multi-story home, or a business with ARC monitoring, a certified installer is worth every lira. They’ll optimize sensor placement for zero blind spots, configure the ARC connection and insurance paperwork, and train your whole household before they leave. The install itself? They’ll be done before your coffee gets cold.
